Homeowners SHOULD ACT NOW to benefit from THE Green Homes Grant

2nd October 2020

Zing Energy is urging homeowners in England to act now to benefit from the Green Homes Grant. The Green Homes Grant, which launched this week, is the Government initiative for homeowners to improve the energy-efficiency of their homes. As a result, 600,000 vouchers are being made available to households for a range of measures. This includes external wall insulation, loft insulation and renewable measures including ground source and air source heat pumps.

Benefit recipients can get up to £10,000 in funding

Homeowners on benefits are entitled to £10,000 in funding, covering 100% of measures. For other homeowners and landlords, the vouchers will be worth two-thirds of the cost of the energy efficient improvements. This is capped at a maximum of £5,000 per household. However a new survey shows the Government’s £2 billion initiative is set to be massively oversubscribed. According to the poll conducted by YouGov and commissioned by the Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit (ECIU), 62% of homeowners are interested in the scheme.

The survey found that a quarter of respondents were ‘very interested’ in the grant. Furthermore if only these participants took advantage of the scheme this would equate to six million households. This would be ten times the number of vouchers on offer.

ACT NOW SO YOU DON’T MISS OUT

On the back of the findings Zing Energy co-founder Martin Thomas is urging homeowners to apply now to avoid missing out. He said: “The Green Homes Grant offers homeowners an incredible opportunity to get hugely subsidised energy improvements. As a result, many people are keen to take advantage of the scheme and we are seeing huge interest. We believe the Government should maintain the scheme as a multi-year project but there are simply no guarantees. This is because they pulled the plug on solar funding in the past and may do the same now.”

He continues: “We would encourage homeowners on benefits in particular to claim their vouchers and contact us at the earliest opportunity. This is because they are able to get 100% of measures paid for. We can then book in the work and help you lower your bills as well as your carbon footprint. For other homeowners, it is also a great opportunity but it is worth stressing you will still need to pay towards these measures. So for these homeowners any improvements won’t be entirely free.”

In order to claim a grant homeowners need to log on to the Simple Energy Advice (SEA) website to apply for a grant. Once a quote has been provided and the work approved, with an accredited company like Zing, the voucher can be issued.
