Home Upgrade Grant
The Home Upgrade Grant (HUG) is funding made available to householders, helping them to become more energy efficient through installing grant-funded energy saving measures.
The funding is provided by a number of Local Authorities in England who are allocated a specific amount of funding from the Government, helping households located off the mains-gas grid to benefit from greater energy efficiency, and therefore helping to lower energy bills.
How does HUG funding work?
The Home Upgrade Grant (now in Phase 2 or ‘HUG 2’) is a grant funding scheme, providing up to £700m to help Local Authorities provide energy efficiency upgrades and clean heating systems to the most inefficient housing stock in England. The scheme, launched by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) is designed to help phase out the use of fossil fuel heating and help the UK meet its carbon reduction target.
What are the qualifying criteria?
In order to qualify for HUG 2 funding, a number of specific criteria must be met, these include:
- Property must be off the mains-gas grid
- Gross household income must be below £31,000 per annum
- Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating must be between D and G
- Property must be located within a HUG 2 Local authority area
*Eligible Local Authorities can be found here Gov.uk
What are the energy saving measures available?
Some of the energy efficiency measures available within HUG 2 funding, includes:
- Air source heat pump
- Cavity wall insulation
- External wall insulation
- Loft insulation
- Park home insulation
- Solar PV
What are the key benefits of securing a HUG 2 grant?
Upgrading your home by installing renewable energy products such as an Air Source Heat Pump or a Solar PV system, or insulation systems including External Wall Insulation, will provide you with a warmer and greener home, which in turn will result in lower energy costs.
