What is it?
External Wall Insulation (EWI) is a layer of insulating material, fixed to the exterior walls of a property with adhesive and mechanical fixings. The purpose is to warm your property but also provide a new and clean appearance, as a decorative finish is applied. So what are the top benefits of external wall insulation and is it right for you?

By properly insulating your property, the temperature in your home will be consistent all year round and reduce the need to whack up the heating. EWI is the foundation stone of insulation, acting as the first layer of defence from the outside weather. Therefore EWI will significantly reduce heat loss and could save you up to £400 each year on energy bill costs. Additionally, the cost of this measure has been drastically reduced as a result of the Green Homes Grant. This means within a few years any outlay will have paid for itself. The vouchers will be worth about two-thirds of the cost of this measure. Those in low income households will be able to claim up to £10,000 and the full cost.
If you are in Wales or Scotland sadly the scheme doesn’t apply. However you may be able to claim for this measure under the Eco Scheme for example. This is a separate Government measure, aimed at boosting energy efficiency.
